Zion-Benton Township High School evaluated its natatorium and decided to construct a new pool within the existing space. Along with a new building, the plan was also to reconstruct the existing natatorium for other muchneeded school functions.

Part of the challenge was that the existing structure, built in the 1970s, was octagonal in shape and required a unique design. Ultimately, a new natatorium was designed successfully despite the odd shape of the space.

The new 27,500-square-foot natatorium features an eight-lane, 25-meter competition pool with an attached two-board diving well and a two-lane practice and teaching pool. Support spaces include men’s and women’s team locker rooms, an extensive storage area, a pool manager’s office, mechanical spaces and gallery-level seating for 400 spectators.
