The client had purchased the iconic Lawrence Rockwell residence, a Georgian styled mansion designed by Holabird & Roche in 1911. They wanted to maintain the historic nature but wanted some 21st century amenities, such as…indoor parking! A tight site and a desire to insert that garage entrance on the least obvious face and below grade meant squeezing it below a first floor kitchen. TSG’s solution and preservation program won the Excellence In Structural Engineering Award from the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois.
